According to a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, they have been conducting an undercover drug operation over the past year. The focus of this operation was on the distribution of opiates and pharmaceutical pills. The Henry County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Virginia State Police, Martinsville Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration assisted in the investigation.
Pharmaceutical pills along with quantities of fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana were seized during the operation. Assets connected to the distribution and trafficking of narcotics were also seized during this operation. These seizures include multiple vehicles and U.S. Currency.
As a result of the drug operation, a Henry County Grand Jury issued indictments on March 19, 2018. This operation resulted in 178 felony charges being issued on 58 adults.
On March 21, 2018, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Virginia State Police, Martinsville Police Department, Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, Henry County Department of Public Safety, United States Marshals Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested 26 suspects on 79 felony charges. Additional methamphetamine and marijuana was also seized.
Six additional subjects are currently incarcerated in correctional facilities awaiting service of their indictments and there are twenty-six suspects still being sought under sealed indictments.
