The Wall Street Journal Has An Interesting Story About Trump

Recommended Posts

The Wall Street Journal Editorial Staff is all in for Donald Trump. Bret Stephens, who was never a friend to Obama either, was the one person, as a foreign affairs columnist, who didn't care for him one bit. He departed for the New York Times. The news staff, however, is interested in scoops as well as the solid reporting for which the Journal is famous, especially on business matters. Lately, the Journal has been competing with the Washington Post and the New York Times for the latest blockbuster on everything Trump. There have been so many, but the Journal is still lagging behind. The latest will make up for that. While I don't subscribe, the library generously does. So several times a week you or I can pop off down the street and give a look. I plan to do that later today.

Porn star was paid $130,000 to keep quiet about a relationship with Trump, Wall Street Journal reports

I'm certainly not assuming it's true, since Trump and his lawyer have denied everything. They are, as we all know, such honest, truthful people. We have to wonder if the Wall Street Journal just wants in on all the lawsuits Trump is going to file...soon.

An adult-film star was paid $130,000 by a lawyer for Donald Trump in the weeks before the 2016 election to not talk publicly about a sexual relationship with the then-Republican candidate, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The lawyer, Michael Cohen, allegedly paid Stephanie Clifford to remain silent about an encounter at Lake Tahoe in 2006, a year after Trump married his third wife, Melania, according to the Journal. The Journal said the payment was made to a client-trust account at City National Bank in Los Angeles.

The Washington Post was not able to independently confirm the payment and was not able to reach the bank.

“These rumors have circulated time and again since 2011. President Trump once again vehemently denies any such occurrence, as has Ms. Daniels,” Cohen said to The Post. Cohen also issued a statement that he said was from Clifford, whose professional name is Stormy Daniels.

...Cohen has called himself Trump’s “fix-it man” and has become part of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election for his emails to Russian officials about a business project there, including a note to Vladimir Putin’s spokesman.

Clifford could not be reached for comment. Her partner, Glendon Crain, did not respond to messages. Keith Davidson, a lawyer that the Journal said was representing Clifford, did not respond to emails and phone calls seeking comment.

...In the days before the 2016 election, the Journal reported that Clifford was in talks with ABC’s “Good Morning America” to air her story about Trump. That report came days after The Washington Post released a video from a 2005 “Access Hollywood” recording in which Trump said he could grab women by the genitals because he was famous.

The Journal also reported in 2016 that the National Enquirer — a publication owned by a close friend of Trump — paid Playboy model Karen McDougal $150,000 for her story about an affair with Trump but never published it.

I don't believe it. That would be sabotaging your entire political and business career. But we all have to remember Bill Clinton lying to the entire world on national TV. The Clintons are so honest.

This kind of stuff sells papers. I think the public has clearly spoken on this issue - they enjoy the gossip, but it doesn't change the base of support.

If it is true, it's not the sex with prostitutes that is the issue since that kind of behavior is his trademark. It's the fact that he was ripped off for $130,000. The great negotiator was taken like a chump. He of course would consider it a good investment because he became president, not that such a revelation would put a dent in the decision-making of the brain-dead chumps who voted for him.

More confirming statements about Trump's misdeeds.

According to the Journal, the payment was made “as part of an agreement that precluded her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump.” Daniels (given name: Stephanie Clifford) had reportedly been in talks with both ABC’s Good Morning America about going public with the allegations.

The Daily Beast had also been in protracted talks with Daniels about arranging an interview after three sources—including fellow porn star Alana Evans—told The Daily Beast that Daniels and Trump were involved. She ultimately backed out on Nov. 3, just five days before the 2016 election.

...on Nov. 4, 2016, the Journal unearthed documents revealing that the Trump-friendly rag National Enquirer had shelled out $150,000 to Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal for a tell-all about her alleged 10-month affair with The Donald from 2006 to 2007. They never ran the piece.

...The Daniels-Trump relationship was also confirmed by an additional source that works closely with Daniels, who spoke to The Daily Beast on condition of anonymity, as well as by a third source in the adult industry.

I just find this next to boring.

I am not next to bored, I am completely bored with his lying, cheating, thieving, tweeting, and most of all his utter stupidity. I really miss the good old days when we could debate about policy issues, etc....you know, things that matter. Who cares if we have one of the most disgusting humans on the planet as our president? We should just move on...nothing to see here. Just Trump with another prostitute. Didn't everyone read the Steel Dossier? Same old, same old.

Let me bore you with more details about the behavior of the rotten human being you elected president.

An adult-film star who was reportedly paid to remain silent about a sexual relationship with Donald Trump a decade before he became president spoke to a journalist because she feared he would not pay up, according to a new account.

Stephanie Clifford, whose professional name is Stormy Daniels, spoke to the online magazine Slate multiple times in 2016 before breaking off contact a week before the election, Jacob Weisberg, chairman and editor in chief of the Slate Group, wrote in an article published Tuesday.

In the story, Clifford is described as having “worked out an agreement for the presidential candidate to pay her a six-figure sum to keep quiet.” This document would have shielded the names of the parties involved, the Slate article added.

“Daniels said she was talking to me and sharing these details because Trump was stalling on finalizing the confidentiality agreement and paying her,” Weisberg wrote. “Given her experience with Trump, she suspected he would stall her until after the election, and then refuse to sign or pay up.”

Clifford suggested that she was keeping to herself some tabloid-ready details “that only someone who had seen him naked would know,” Weisberg wrote.

...Weisberg wrote that after Clifford stopped speaking to Slate, he considered publishing her account, since she had not declared anything off the record. But he said he assumed she would disavow the account, and since he lacked independent corroboration of the confidentiality settlement, the story remained untold until this month.

Adult-film star reportedly spoke to journalist in 2016 about Trump settlement, fearing he wouldn’t pay up

Would reports of this behavior before the election have made any difference to Evangelicals who voted for this sleaze or anyone who claims a higher morality than a sewer rat? Give the prostitute credit for knowing what a liar she was dealing with. Too bad the same can't be said for most of the suckers who voted for him--or am I giving them too much credit?

In Touch Weekly found its lost 2011 interview with Stormy Daniels detailing her affair with Trump. You have to wonder at the outrage if Bush or Obama had behaved like this. Instead, not a word from the sycophants and slugs who support this reprobate and pitiful little from those who don't. He came to Washington to clean up the swamp, but he turned it into a sewer of his own filth.

...most notable about Clifford’s account of the consensual affair was how it mirrors accusations of non-consensual advances by Trump. For him, this is a pattern. Like many others, Clifford thought Trump wanted to give her a professional opportunity. Like many others, Trump dangled the promise of a professional opportunity—a promise he never intended to keep—in exchange for sex. Unlike the others we know about, Clifford gave in to Trump’s advances.

...Donald Trump has displayed a decades-long pattern of promising women professional advancement in exchange for sex, or expecting sex in exchange for giving women professional opportunities.

I loved all the stories about Obama's boyfriends and Michelle being a transgender. Gossip sells. Now I'm just waiting for  "Trump Born In Kenya" - but the story about Trump being a time traveler was the best.

Why it matters.

Trump’s actions, clearly, are out of sync with our collective ethical code...By breaking that code and then aspiring to an office that requires the support of Americans who abide by it (or at least believe they do), any politician puts himself in a vulnerable position. Either he risks a ruined career, or he does whatever he can to quiet things down.

When that politician is the president, whoever’s in the know wields a dangerous amount of power over a figure who himself is tremendously powerful. If a foreign country acquires damning information about the United States’ leader, it could, either by threatening to expose past indiscretions or by laying a sexual trap, twist international policy to its benefit. A domestic group could also hold dirty little secrets over the man in charge to draw special favors.

That — not some vague concept of the president as perfect role model — is what makes it newsworthy that a president or presidential contender may have paid a bunch of people not to say they had adulterous sex with him.

What should scare us about Trump’s porn star scandal

It's interesting to me that this thread has had so many hits. Everyone knows that Trump is a pervert. The attempt of his sycophants to try to play it off is really amusing. Vox discusses everything that is known about the story and all the outlets that had it before the election. But, none of that matters because EVERYONE KNOWS THAT TRUMP IS A PERVERT.

Hence, Vox's conclusion to the story:

Ultimately, whether this story damages Trump depends on a) whether Trump is duly shamed and compelled to resign or apologize, both of which seem unlikely; b) whether Republicans in charge of Congress view it as a serious matter and launch an investigation; and c) if the media constantly pursues it as the main political story in the country, which is both unlikely and arguably irresponsible when the military is moving ships, troops, and planes to prepare for a possible war with North Korea. However important you think the Stormy Daniels story is, that one is definitely more important.

There’s also a question as to whether the news that Trump was unfaithful to his wife is much of a revelation at all. Marla Maples was Trump’s extramarital partner before she became his wife; there is audio of him bragging to a reporter about cheating on Ivana. If you went into the 2016 election unsure if Trump was a faithful husband and partner, you weren’t paying much attention.

In other words, the voters who elected Trump knew that this was who he was when they voted for him. Why should the latest news change their minds, or anyone else’s?

Vox is right. Trump is a lying, cheating, filthy excuse for a human being and everyone knew it long before he ran for the presidency. The 15 women who have accused him of sexual abuse are the tip of the iceberg and among the few who never signed a nondisclosure agreement or were paid off. Does anyone really care?

Wait a minute! Somebody IS taking Trump's blackmail payoff to a porn actress seriously. Actually, it's a venerable old organization that you don't read much about anymore. It went the way of bipartisanship. Amazingly, it still exists and it has sniffed out what it views as a violation of election laws.

The confidentiality settlement reportedly paid to an adult-film star who said she had an affair with Donald Trump years before he became president may have violated campaign finance laws, a watchdog group alleged Monday.

In a pair of federal complaints, Common Cause, a nonprofit government watchdog group, argued that the settlement amounted to an unreported in-kind contribution to Trump's campaign. The group called on the Justice Department and Federal Election Commission to investigate.

...This settlement should have been considered a campaign expense “because the funds were paid for the purpose of influencing the 2016 presidential general election,” Paul S. Ryan, a campaign finance expert at the group, said in a letter addressed to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein.

The pair of complaints filed by Common Cause said that the source of the $130,000 payment remains unknown, but they added that regardless of where it originated — even “if Donald J. Trump provided the funds” — the money was aimed at affecting the election and then never reported.
